Hello Keith. Will you please stop following me around the Internet. Thanks. User:Gareth Owen

Hi, my spell-checker flagged "judgement," so I changed it without hesitation, but you're right that both are correct. I'll leave its spelling alone in the future. -- Minesweeper 19:51, Oct 22, 2003 (UTC)

Children's Lit

[edit]

It's linked at the bottom of the page (the in-page list was one I had just started myself, and it only had one name on it, so I didn't think anyone would want it). Maybe it needs to be made more prominent? I certainly didn't notice it first time. seglea 04:51, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

aahh - just had another look - I'd accidentally cut the bottom half off somehow. I've restored it now. seglea 06:13, 5 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Wales

[edit]

I wasnt aware that it's not the coat of arms of wales. If not, then leave it out. What is it though? --Jiang 06:59, 25 Dec 2003 (UTC)

This page is longer than Jason Varitek. Discuss.

The International Eisteddfod isn't "another" Eisteddfod. It's undoubtedly the most famous one.

This is not the case. "Eisteddfod" generally refers to the National Eisteddfod, held annually in a different place in Wales since the nineteenth century. This can probably be demonstrated by sampling news articles.

E.g. this BBC news article: [1]

Capitalization

[edit]

It's not so much Wikipedia policy as it is the regular format of English. Album titles, bands, etc. which begin with "a," "the," or such aren't capitalized if the name appears in the middle of the sentence. As an example, "The Rutles parody the Beatles." I won't get into an edit war over it or anything, if you'd rather have it as The Rutles, then hey, be my guest. It won't detract from the information within. - Vague Rant 06:33, Nov 15, 2004 (UTC)

Well, if we're going for uniformity, then "the" is probably the way to go. Of the "the Bandnames" articles, a few which probably get the most attention are the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys and the Beatles, all of which follow the same system of capitalization as I do. As I say, feel free to change it. It's no big issue for me, I don't mind it either way. I don't go searching it out or anything, I just change it if I come across it while making other edits. It's a Wiki, I don't make the rules, you can do what you like. Have a good one. - Vague Rant 22:32, Nov 15, 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

expos/nationals debate

[edit]

There is a major debate going on, and I wondered if you might want to chime in. The debate involves how to deal with franchise moves in baseball. The question is whether Montréal Expos should be its own article or if it should redirect to Washington Nationals. All other instances of franchise moves in MLB redirect the old team name to the new team name, and the history of the franchise is covered within the new team name (for MLB, NBA and NFL examples, see here. Some people are confused and think the Expos and the Nats are different teams. Some people don't want to upset Canadian readers.

Indeed, the Washington Nationals are not a new team - the Montreal Expos franchise has moved to Washington, and the old franchise name should redirect to the new franchise name, just like the 20+ instances of this occuring in Wikipedia. For example, Brooklyn Dodger history resides in the Los Angeles Dodgers article. New York Giants history, including the Shot Heard 'Round the World, resides in the San Francisco Giants article.

If you have the time, maybe you could chime in on the conversation there, Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Montréal Expos. Kingturtle 17:23, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I think that when most teams have moved, i.e. Dodgers from Brooklyn, Giants to San Francisco, A's from Philadelphia to Kansas City and then to Oakland, Braves, etc., they have kept the team name and their history has gone with them. When the NFL's Cleveland Browns relocated to Baltimore in 1995, the league stripped them of all of the history, and that was all given to the expansion Browns which began play in 1999. The Ravens were treated like an expanison team in 1996. (That instance was, however, because the Cleveland locals were opposed to losing their team, and Montreal seems for the most part indifferent. I'm sure the Expos fans would disagree however.) The only comparable situation in baseball, however, was probably the Washington Senators. Was the Senators' (I) history considered the history of the Minnesota Twins? Is the second Senators' history considered that of the Texas Rangers? Had the second Senators' never moved to Texas but remained in DC after 1969, would the first Seantors' history be considered theirs? Interesting questions. RHolecko 16:46, 12 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy! I'm contacting you because your name is listed as a participant in Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball players. The project seems to be dormant, but I'm interested in starting it up again. I've worked on a new infobox template (see it in action here) and have many ideas for increasing Wikipedia's coverage of MLB players. If you're interested, please leave a note at the project's talk page. Thanks! AиDя01DTALKEMAIL 22:22, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Blue Jays

[edit]

Hey, there Varitek. I'm wxthewx99, and I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, at least editing and creating new pages. Nevertheless, I'm getting better, and wanted to know if you mind if I took the Blue Jays off your hands in the baseball players WikiProject as I see that you are tackling the AL East. Toronto is my favorite team, and I know quite a bit about the players on their roster. Thanks. Wxthewx99 21:53, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Babe Ruth

[edit]

I'm posting this message on you Talk Page either because you've contributed to the article Babe Ruth, or because you've edited other baseball or sports related articles. I've recently completed a revision of this article at Babe Ruth/rewrite. If you have the time, I'd appreciated it if you'd compare the articles and leave any feedback you might have on the rewrite discussion page. I'd like to reach a consensus before makeing major changes to the main article. Thanks for your help. --djrobgordon 20:44, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Aww!

[edit]

Ye gods, I arrive and everyone leaves. I hope there is no connection. Sorry you're going. No chance of changing your mind? Telsa (talk) 16:59, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, I see. I know what you mean about templates, although in my case it's the quantity of the things. I find it simpler and less obtrusive to leave a note on the talk page. See you around, I hope. --Telsa (talk) 09:32, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:WWNB

[edit]

Also, whilst replying above, I just noticed no-one had mentioned WP:WWNB yet. About a month ago, User:Rhion started a Welsh Wikipedians' noticeboard, if it's of interest (and if you stay, obviously). It has a "Pending tasks" thingy, but I haven't seen any templates on it yet.. :) Telsa (talk) 09:38, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
