Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    List of Deadwood characters

Reason: Repeated false edit on the cast table by an IP. IronMaximus (talk) 08:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Lectonar (talk) 09:38, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Ramesh Narayan

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Apparently he did something unseemly or rude, and now a bunch of IPs have got it into their heads that vandalizing this article will have some effect in regards to that. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 08:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator HJ Mitchell. Malcolmxl5 (talk) 10:48, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hathigumpha inscription

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. Again and again editing from multiple accounts.Be Jain (talk) 09:13, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Neither IP nor vandalism: last IP edit was in April this year. You and others disagree, and there's a slow back and forth between multiple users. Lectonar (talk) 09:33, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Inverness Caledonian Thistle F.C.‎

Reason: Recently been subject to cut and paste move to Inverness CT (which should be a redirect) from IP editor. The IP has been warned but given it's happened three times in the last 36ish hours, I think protecting the page would be helpful. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 10:18, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dog Man (film) - Attempt 2

Reason: Some anonymous users added a lot of unsourced content. The Media Expert (talk) 11:29, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:38, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Manorathangal

Reason: May require creation protection. There's a draft. Moving without much improvement. At one point, an editor entirely copy-pasted the body of another related article to appear developed. Additionally, since it is nearing release on August 15, there are chances for more editors to create separate articles, or with its alternate title Mindscapes. 117.230.90.248 (talk) 11:54, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    The Day Britain Stopped

Temporary semi-protection: Same IP edit warring resuming within 24 hours of the previous year-long protection expiring. Belbury (talk) 12:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Jorge Martínez (footballer, born April 1983)

Reason: Page was given indefinite semi as a first resort in May 2011 - rather bizarrely, as you look at the edit history and nothing at all was going on then. The subject was obscure then and is even more obscure now seven years into retirement. Protecting admin has one edit in last year. Unknown Temptation (talk) 12:13, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The summary for the protection (which was inherited from the page's original title) says "go to semi per arb injunction" - the implication being this article was involved in an Arbitration case around that timeframe. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 16:14, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unprotected. @Jéské Couriano: The full log message helps explain a bit more: PC trial is over, go to semi per arb injunction. Between that and the date, you can find Injunction regarding pending changes and biographies of living persons. Based on that and WP:UNPROTPOL, unprotection is an option, and I don't see any reason to not try unprotecting the article. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:23, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Attempted assassination of Donald Trump

The Investigation section should be removed because it duplicates the Perpetrator section 61.69.211.5 (talk) 06:36, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. The investigation is broader than the investigation of the perpetrator. Also, this request is not specific enough to complete. There is further guidance at Wikipedia:Edit requests. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:26, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip (2023–present)

change the injury toll suggested by gaza health ministry to 79,261 as stated in cited article ConnorThomasHogan (talk) 09:12, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Talk:Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip is not protected. Please request an edit directly on that page. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:29, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Thomas Matthew Crooks

In the assassination section, it says that he tried to assassinate him on July 14 though he died on July 13 Bebo12321 (talk) 23:02, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you misread the first sentence of the assassination attempt section, as "On July 14, 2024, the FBI identified Crooks as the shooter behind the attempted assassination of Donald Trump the previous day." The attempt was on the 13th, he was identified on the 14th. XCBRO172 (talk) 02:42, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done for the reason explained by XCBRO172 above. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 11:31, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
