Weapons

[edit]

I searched a few of the weapons on Google, and only came up with results for this game. I think they modified the names of real weapons to avoid copyrights. For example, "Wolfram PP7" instead of Walther P99.-LtNOWIS 02:23, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I suggest we move the weapons list to List of firearms in first-person shooters and find out the real names of the weapons mentioned. TonicBH 06:01, July 11, 2005 (UTC)

Just so you know, the Wolfram PP7 was the Walther PPK, not P99, the Wolfram P2K is the P99. Emperor001 21:24, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where did the weapons section go? Emperor001 01:59, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Storm is NOT based on the Uzi, but rather the Ruger MP9. Shouldn't the rest of the guns have their real life counterparts mentioned? I.E. K-40/80 = Glock 18 or the Raptor Magnum = Desert Egale71.145.191.237 23:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why not just post the weapons as described in the instruction manual or something. It would be the best way considering this article should only contain info about the game and not those counter-parts. I can do it if somebody agrees. Move to 007: Nightfire

[edit]

I would like to suggest a move to 007: Nightfire as that seems to be the official title. Suggestions or opinions?--analoguedragon 20:10, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

According to the official website it as "James Bond 007: NightFire". I really don't care. K1Bond007 21:05, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, It's not very clear which is the correct name (they use both names on the official site), so I'll just leave it like this for now. I really don't care that much for James Bond games ;)--analoguedragon 22:29, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spoiler

[edit]

Added a spoiler warning above the Characters section -- I didn't know Dominique was killed!

Good idea. I may restructure the article to put those details elsewhere, spoilers shouldn't be in the character bios! --Benjrh 02:42, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Reviews?

[edit]

This game was not released to universally bad reviews, as the article states. In fact, it received very good scores from most major game websites and magazines and is widely considered to be one of the best Bond games. Perhaps the author confused this game with Agent Under Fire or Rogue Agent? Anyways, I'm changing it unless someone can back it up.

The game is great... but fans off course preffer games based in the films and not fictional-created by EA plot.
People say the PC version made by Gearbox Software as an inferior version. and I concur, the console versions are better than the PC version by far. The notice COULD be reinstated but to be clarified since the console versions DID get decent reviews. -TonicBH 04:09, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Correct... A comparsion between the versions may be needed. The PC version lack the the driving missions, as well as having very minimal hand to hand combat options... Also the AI is terrible. Characters stop their attack on you in mid action. I will layout plans for this section. --Benjrh 02:42, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

These should clarify the ratings conflict: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbx/jamesbond007nightfire?q=nightfire http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/jamesbond007nightfire?q=nightfire http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/jamesbond007nightfire?q=nightfire http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/cube/jamesbond007nightfire?q=nightfire According to Metacritic's rating system all of the games (excluding the PC's) are "Generally Favorable". http://www.metacritic.com/about/scoring.shtml#game MafiaCapo 21:29, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Engine

[edit]

The console versions do NOT use the GoldSrc / Half-Life engine. They use a proprietary engine written by Eurocom.

Gadgets

[edit]

Shouldn't there be a gadgets section? Bibliomaniac15 01:33, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea, I will add such a section when I improve the article.--Benjrh 02:42, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Content Errors/Improvements

[edit]

There are details which are incorrect in this article. For example, the company name is clearly Phoenix International. Also the level of detail can be increased. I am not sure if the company name is different depending on the version. Can someone with a European version as well as a version for system (not PC/Mac) please confirm the name. Thank-you.

I plan to drastically improve the article in the coming weeks/months. Anyone interested in helping or wishing to talk about it, please post on here or on my discussion page--Benjrh 02:42, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia

[edit]

I added a piece about Halle Berry's appearence on the cover to the Trivia section. MafiaCapo 21:32, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's not Halle Berry. K1Bond007 22:02, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmm... it looks like her but I suppose it could be Kiko. MafiaCapo 02:18, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My PS2-DVD version has a trailler of Die Another Day, located in options and off course Berry apeears. --Ragnarok Addict 18:58, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Person on the cover is suposed to be Domonique --Ncusa367 22:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Car level

[edit]

I just notice the car level was made by Need for Speed: Host Pursuit 2 staff. I readed this on EGM November 2002. If close look at Vanquish it is exactly the same 3D model in Hot Pursuit 2. --Ragnarok Addict 18:57, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missions

[edit]

All the missions are written with "you". Shouldn't it be "the player" or "Bond"?

To be perfectly honest, I don't think we need the missions section in the first place. Stuff like that could be moved to StrategyWiki or something. -TonicBH 16:47, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but we shouldn't simply cut it off. It would be better to clean all the section until there's only a complete mission list remaining. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Victao lopes (talkcontribs) 17:56, 10 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Armitage Rook

[edit]

Who has acted Armitage Rook in Nightfire? Morris Munroe 16:29, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oddjob

[edit]

I removed oddjob from the characters section. He does not work for pheonix, does not appear in the story and is just as a cameo character for multiplayer. --Ncusa367 22:56, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kiko merge

[edit]

Sure, go - just well done. --HanzoHattori 20:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article already seems to contain a sufficient description of the character. Redirecting.  OzLawyer / talk  20:13, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
HanzoHattori has reinstated the original article, saying it wasn't merged. I think the section in this article is adequate; nothing else needs to be merged. Leebo86 16:05, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Soooo why the mergin'? You got plenty articles like this or this (I just clicked two very random). --HanzoHattori 17:10, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion is not an indicator of validity, notability, or quality. Those articles deserve to be merged too. Leebo86 19:06, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. The information in the article is more than enough, and the fact that there are other articles that should be merged/deleted is not a reason to keep this one. I have re-redirected it.  OzLawyer / talk  23:58, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, what about spoilers?

[edit]

There really ought to be a spoiler warning around the plot summary. I would put it in, myself, if I knew its code. SpinyMcSpleen 01:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot sections are expected to have spoilers, so it is redundant. See WP:SPOILER for more information. TTN 01:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If it were redundant, the spoiler tags would not exist. I added them to the article, by the way. SpinyMcSpleen 01:34, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This has been discussed endlessly. The final line is that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and spoiler warnings break up the encyclopedic tone of the article. One comes here to read a fully detailed and broad factual description of the subject, and critical plot details are going to be part of that. If one doesn't wish to know about the subject, then avoiding the article is simple. Any number of other sites that aren't encyclopedias can avoid the plot. Leebo T/C 02:06, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about this: if the spoiler warnings are getting on your nerves, perhaps the entire plot section should be rewritten or deleted entirely. SpinyMcSpleen 17:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

console

[edit]

It seems like internet users (both wikipedians and otherwise) tend to ignore the PC version and focus solely on the console versions. Other may do this; as an encyclopedia, we cannot. I haven't played this game in over two years (I don't even own it anymore), so someone else would probably have to take care of it. --MKnight9989 14:32, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The storyline between the console and the PC is basically the same, the only differences are in weapons, gadgets, and a few stages. There really isn't anything worth talking about as far as the PC goes other than it exists. SpinyMcSpleen 17:24, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weapons, gadgets, and levels make up most of what the game is. The story certainly doesn't deserve an award --MKnight9989 12:11, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The plot doesn't change at all between the PC version and the console version. Like SpinyMcSpleen said, the PC version exists, that's all that's notable about it. 75.88.84.15 20:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My point is this: the story is lackluster and stale and formulaic. For argument's sake, I am dismissing the story for those reasons. The weapons, gadgets, and levels are quite different, and since those things are actually interesting, I am discussing only those. There could at least be a section highlighting the major differences between the PC and the console versions. --MKnight9989 12:09, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A section about major differences would be a good idea. Of course, there are certain users who may not agree. SpinyMcSpleen 06:17, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
SpinyMcSpleen, that's exactly who I was thinking of. Of course that user tends to only revert content that clashes with the Wikipedia guidelines. I'd say, make the section and, if anyone changes it, they're just damaging the accuracy of the article. 75.88.84.15 06:28, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I've added a section on the major differences. It may need to be moved up on the page, though. Also, it is a MAJOR differences section, is in drastic changes in characters or stages, not as in the Ronin being able to spin 360° or the appearance of the weapons. SpinyMcSpleen 06:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks guys. Hope you didn't lose any hair over my nagging. --MKnight9989 12:09, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A user called "Deltabeignet" is trying to delete the "Major Differences" section. Maybe Deltabeignet should read this thread. 75.88.84.15 04:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nightfire Music -- not the title theme

[edit]

Two things. One: Who composed the music, Ed Lima or Steve Duckworth? Two: What make and model synthesiser was used to perform the music? SpinyMcSpleen 21:48, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Duckworth did the music for the FPS levels, Jeff Tymoshuk did the music for the driving levels. Ed Lima did one or two tracks found in the PC version.

Thank you, unknown user. So, just one more thing, then: anyone know anything about the synthesiser? SpinyMcSpleen 06:35, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Leave the "Major Differences" section alone!

[edit]

All right, TTN, mate, look: don't just delete sections because you feel like it. The "Major Differences" section, although trivial, is the only way we (MKnight9989, an anonymous IP, and myself) could think of to do more than just mention the existence of a PC version of the game. I don't know if you've noticed, but the article is about the console version, without any information at all about the PC. Put a notice on this page first before you get too trigger-happy with the Delete key, right? That way, people can discuss why it should and shouldn't go. SpinyMcSpleen 06:00, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Locations section

[edit]

The Locations section seems to be disjointed and badly-written. I intend to delete this section two days from this post unless someone can fix it (or deletes it first). SpinyMcSpleen 06:24, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disregard. I have deleted the Locations section, as well as a bit of unnecessary strategy guide material. SpinyMcSpleen 10:17, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Night Fire 007"?

[edit]

What the devil? There seems to be an article called Night Fire 007, which is essentially the same as this article. Why does it need to exist? I mean, the title isn't even right! Moreover, how does one go about suggesting that an article be deleted? SpinyMcSpleen 05:27, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page is now a redirect. If you wished to delete it, I think WP:AfD would be where to go. (Personally I say leave it alone as a redirect) OSbornarfcontributionatoration 16:32, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot section

[edit]

I'm not entirely convinced that we need a plot section that goes into such detail. Most of the time, the detail is provided by individuals who are unaware of (or who just disregard) Wikipedia policy on strategy guide material, so, most generally, a not insignificant amount of unnecessary rubbish about how to complete levels is weaselled into the plot summary. Perhaps, rather than explaining the events of each level, the necessary information could be condensed into one or two short paragraphs. I don't want to step on any toes, as it were -- that's why I've suggested it first... just to give anyone a chance to agree or disagree. SpinyMcSpleen 05:07, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with SpinyMcSpleen. The plot section is far too long and covers more information than the other sections put together. Also the 'plot' as written before above covers the Console version of the game, i.e The PC version starts in London. It's quite easy, and if you look back at previous edits, to write a briefer plot that covers all versions without conflict. Overall this article needs to be written in a comprehensive form that covers the 'Nightfire game' and not be weighed to a singular version.

87.194.134.42 03:45, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[OO9][reply]

I've replaced the Plot section's content with that of the old "Overview" section. All of the necessary points are touched on without being overly descriptive. SpinyMcSpleen (talk) 17:04, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This issue has still not been addressed. The overview is entirely written based on the console version when the PC version varies greatly from it. For instance, the article makes no mention of Rook whom gets his face disfigured because of Bond in Austria. At the same time, Kiko is also present at the party and the article makes no mention of her until over half way through the game. Additionally, a lot of the extra points in the article pertains only to the console version (e.g. unlockable content). I'm beginning to think the PC version needs it's own article because Gearcraft took a completely different approach than Eurocom. The Mac version is essentially an OpenGL port of the PC version. They should be able to be lumped together. I'm not sure where the JV Games developed version fits best as I have never played it. Regardless, the only similarities between console and PC/Mac is that of location (Austria, Japan, Space, etc.), plot (if you stand back far enough), and a few key characters. Beyond that, they are completely different. FordGT90Concept (talk) 19:09, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have a suggestion. We can keep the plot summary so that it pertains to the console version, since it is apparently more popular than the PC version. However, if no one objects, I will write an additional section on how the plot on the PC version differs from the console version since they share roughly the same storyline. I beat both the PC and console versions so I can write a good summary and comparison, but could someone give me some suggestions? 76.204.146.146 (talk) 12:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't get passed the second mission so I can't write a good summary. When I have time I can spend try to beat the game so I can do that. I managed to remove ", this is very much like the final scene of 'Moonraker' where Bond tries to stop Drax from firing bombs containing poisonous gases at Earth." because I thought it was irrelevant content and has nothing to do with the plotBending Unit (talk) 05:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC) Bending Unit[reply]

I don't know why it was added again but maybe a new section titled "Similarities to Bond Films" should be made because that info doesn't have anything to do with the plot. The plot is almost the same on the PC as it is on consoles. Can anybody confirm that the Gamecube version is the same as the other consoles? --Bending Unit (talk) 13:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC) Bending Unit[reply]

PC Game modifications

[edit]

There was a section before on game modifications (creating/editing maps). I think this should be added back in as it is a big part of the history of the game. You can find it here under the section Modding http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=007:_Nightfire&diff=prev&oldid=120456170. It needs to be tided up and updated a bit, as it is now active with an editor and complier available to make modifications. 87.194.134.42 04:19, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[OO9][reply]

I don't agree. The mod section was deleted because it was superfluous, being of no benefit to the article. SpinyMcSpleen (talk) 17:05, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with SpinyMcSpleen that Wikipedia is not the place for mods. I do, however, recommend placing an external link to the NFBSP Wiki where that content is very relevant. I don't want to add it myself because I don't want to self-promote anything. FordGT90Concept (talk) 04:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move back to "James Bone 007: Nightfire"

[edit]

"James Bond 007: Nightfire" is the official title. That is how it is named everywhere including the Start menu of the PC Version (less the colon because colons aren't allowed). Here's a list that include the "James Bond":

The only major player I can find that omits "James Bond" is on the Aspyr Support page.

I should have brought this up a long time ago but anyway, I highly recommend moving this article back to its rightful home: next to the rest of the James Bond franchise. FordGT90Concept (talk) 06:51, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot

[edit]

The screenshot of the first level was badly taken. It looks as though someone just took a photograph of their television screen. Need I point out that there are loads of websites with decent pictures of NightFire. I'm sure that at least one of them most certainly has a higher-quality version of exact same picture (or something close to it). 75.88.87.7 (talk) 06:02, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I own the game so I can take a couple in-game of relevant stuff. Bending Unit (talk) 05:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC) Bending Unit[reply]

"Nightfire" vs. "NightFire"

[edit]

While the title of the article is "James Bond 007: Nightfire," it should instead read "James Bond 007: NightFire." Even in the instruction manual, there is a capital F. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.100.199.160 (talk) 06:46, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct in that they always capitalized the F in offical documentation (like the fansite kit); however, in popular use, it is never capitalized (it is treated as a proper compound noun). I believe it is fine the way it is. FordGT90Concept (talk) 09:09, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Music information from Steve Duckworth Reply

[edit]

In addition to the information in the #Nightfire Music -- not the title theme section above, I received a response on 2013-09-19 to an enquiry about who composed what via YouTube from Steve Duckworth, who still comments on Nightfire videos.

I wrote all of the interactive score for all the first person sections of the (GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox) - which is what we were responsible for at Eurocom. Driving sections were handled by EA, and they sent us the tracks to play for that. I can't remember who did that. I didn't even know there was a PC version. That must have been handled by another developer taking our assets. I have had a look and yes that is all my music too, but it hasn't been implemented with the same interactive Music system I developed at Eurocom. On the PC, it just cross fades between action and stealth. You really need to check out one of the console versions to appreciate the effort I put into that score. The music stems contain jump markers throughout describing where the Beat and Bar is, and when it jump and where to. This resulted in a more seamless musical score particularly when coping with moving from high tension (fast tempo) music back to slow. It won an award. Hope that Helps. Steve

I've responded with questions on the award and the equipment he used. Hopefully this info can be integrated into the article by anyone wanting to expand the music section. —Vanderdeckenξφ 17:33, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
