I feel the article should use an image from when he was Prime Minister

[edit]

The current one looks good, but surely it'd be much better to have one from during his premiership, rather than one from 2010. The images from during his premiership are of lower quality, but other articles, like the ones on John Howard and Justin Trudeau, have had their images changed from high quality ones to lower quality, but more appropriate ones. I agree with that general approach. For instance, a long time ago I substituted a photo of Mulroney from when he was PM, replacing a picture of him taken just a few years ago. I think it's a good idea to have a photo contemporary with time in office, if one is available. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 17:59, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shawinigan Falls

[edit]

Chrétien was born in Shawinigan Falls, which was later renamed Shawinigan. For the sake of historical accuracy, the article should say that he was born in Shawinigan Falls. If someone wants to add that the town was later renamed, that's fine by me. This is, as Ak-eater06 has pointed out, an important article, so it's crucial that we get the basic facts right. Need consensus on this, User:GoodDay, User:G. Timothy Walton. Ak-eater06 (talk) 21:26, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't looked at the article, but we should go with what the place was called at the time of Chretien's birth. I've always sided with birthplace name for towns, cities, countries of individuals, in these instances. GoodDay (talk) 21:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not really my area, but isn't it normal to state such things as born in x (now y)? G. Timothy Walton (talk) 22:05, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

More Recent Photo

[edit]

Can we start a discussion about adding a more recent photo that is not 13 years old?

@Ak-eater06 Please engage 2604:3D09:6A85:6000:3DD7:DF6F:DDA0:8FCA (talk) 22:52, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The goal is to find the photo closest to the subject's years as PM. Notice how all Prime Minister articles have infobox photos during their time as PM. Ak-eater06 (talk) 22:56, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, well 2010 is seven years after he left office. So... 2604:3D09:6A85:6000:D93A:5A7D:5F69:7E8C (talk) 00:00, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Chretien at APEC 1997.jpg This one (cropped obviously) would better fit your criteria.
Also this: Chrétien crop Sept 9 2002.jpg 2604:3D09:6A85:6000:D93A:5A7D:5F69:7E8C (talk) 00:06, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind showing a post-PM photo since he's a living person, but it does seem like consensus on other political leaders is to show the subject in office. Personally I think the current photo is the best headshot that we have due to its colour and resolution. Consigned (talk) 18:37, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree. Best is to have a good quality picture during a PM’s time in office, but if the picture quality isn’t good, that’s a factor to consider as well. The 1997 pic is pretty grainy, and the resolution on the 2002 isn’t very good. The current infobox pic strikes me as the best. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 21:04, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Adding the image that was in the infobox before April which Ak-eater06 just added back to the infobox. Consigned (talk) 21:55, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
