Nations of the First, Second, and Third World have membership in the United Nations, and representation in this international organisation. These nations are the territorial powers called nation-states, have recognised claims to territory, as well as diplomatic privileges.

Many Nations of the Fourth World also have some level of diplomatic represention through the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO).

The Fifth World Council (5WC) is an association of Fifth World nations unincorporated in any territorial jurisdiction, and without representation in any international organisation. While Fifth World nations share many of the traits common to Micronations, they are also quite different, much more substantial, and in fact Fifth World nations are also quite distinct even from a legal perspective.

Members of the Fifth World Council have refused to recognise the Montevideo Convention, the Outer Space Treaty, the Antarctic Treaty, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). They also reject a cardinal feature of Roman law that is at the foundation of many legal systems around the world, the law called jus soli. Fifth World nations in fact recognise a quite different if not opposite law to that of jus soli, a law called jus cerebri electronici.

The Fifth World Council was founded on July 13, 2002. It claims 5 member nations, as well as a Dutch multinational among its members. The Fifth World Council also accepts individual, family, clan, tribal, society, and community members.
