ESBI I don't entirely understand why you are constaqntly changing Tricity into Gdansk. Tricity is a metropolitan area. However, it is not a formal city. Cautious 13:56, 15 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Theese are your opinions. Some proves?

In matter of fact I learned in the school that aglomeration as you suggest, Gdansk is, consists from the center city and sorounding areas. The best example is Warsaw: you have a center, central parts, sorounding parts and suburbs. At the same lesson Tricity was given as an example of konurbation - multicentric urban area. The third category was megalopolis i.e. Upper Silesia.

Tricity is much different. The structure is almost linear. There is not so much integration to the center of Gdansk. In matter of fact, there are many centers and each city represensts the center for itself. There are also suburbs, like Wejherowo, but nobody would call Wejherowo suburb of Gdansk it is more clearly suburb of Gdynia.

What is also interesting, due to the multicentric development of Gdansk itself, Gdansk is only the name for its own center! Nobody says, "I am going to the Centre" , instead people say "I am going to Gdansk", meaning I am going to the Main City. Other people say "I am going to Gdansk", "I am going to Wrzeszcz", "I am going to Oliwa".

Cautios: So many false in so little words.

1. City name - Tricity -> False!

There is no city with name Tricity

2. Cautios: "It consists from Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot and many smaller towns" -> FALSE!

There is only one smaller town than Sopot.

3. Cautios: "but nobody would call Wejherowo suburb of Gdansk it is more clearly suburb of Gdynia." -> FALSE!

Nobody say Wejeherowo suburb of Gdansk and nobody say this about Gdynia. Wejherowo is Wejherowo But 40 000 city we cannot compare with 460 000 city like Reda, Sopot.

With all respect, I dont see where Cautious states that Tricity is a CITY. Tricity is a METROPOLITAN AREA, that is what Cautious calls it, and that is what he is trying to make clear. Tricity is NOT included on Largest urban areas of the European Union nor on Largest cities of the European Union by population, because it's not a city.
From Largest urban areas of the European Union:
This is a list of urban areas, this is not a list of metropolitan areas. Urban areas are contiguous built-up areas where houses are not more than 200 metres apart (discounting rivers, parks, roads, industrial fields, etc.). A metropolitan area is an urban area plus the satellite cities around the urban area and the agricultural land in between.
The Metropolitan area is called TRICITY. Maartenvdbent 09:50, 30 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1. Name Tricity is taken from Three City and means Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia. 2. Tricity isn'n official name but only colloquial. 3. Name Main Town used by Cautios is strongly associate with Gdansk and means the same what centrum. Main Town is the oldest part of Gdańsk, place where Gdańsk was founded.

In last version there is new mistake. So many mistakes in so few words. Tricity isn't only Gdansk and Gdynia. I think that you spaek about things that you dont understand.

Let's first make things clear. I didn't edit the Tricity thing on Largest metropolitan areas in Europe, that was Cautious. I edited figures about Dutch cities only.

1. I know that Tricity means Three City.

2. I know that too. Ruhr-area is also colloquial, Randstad is also colloquial. Many names of metropolitan areas are colloquial because there are no governing structures for metropolitan areas. There are only such structures for cities-proper or urban areas.

3. I don't get this. What is your point?

On Tricity article page Tricity is named a metropolitan area. Therefore it should be included as such on the list.

By the way, the name Tricity is to make clear that it consists of three main cities. It doesn't mean that there are no other towns/cities/villages in the metropolitan area (as stated in the article)
