Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Extended confirmed protection for at least one monthReason:- persistent COI editing by a member of the CWI who has less than 100 edits and asserts personal ownership of the article. See: " Like I said before it isn't your International and you have free to say anything you want about us but not on our personal page."[1] Wellington Bay (talk) 01:14, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Extended Confirmed Protection

    Reason: Falls under WP:PIA. Ovioas,wo (talk) 02:08, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persisten vandalism by vandalism-only created accounts. Because blocking individual accounts does not help, page protection is necessary. FromCzech (talk) 06:57, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @FromCzech: Protection is not the right way to handle the 398/400 change issue and indefinite protection is not available for this level of disruption. I see that a couple of accounts have been created to repeat the edit and that has to be handled more directly. I will watch the article for a while but if I miss something for 24 hours, please remind me. In particular, I will block if there are any more attacks at article talk such as from September 2023. Johnuniq (talk) 10:53, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated addition of unsourced and/or possibily hoaxed content. Blake Gripling (talk) 08:19, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. GoodnightmushTalk 11:41, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Dynamic IP readding fake films. Belbury (talk) 08:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 10:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Risk of vandalism. I will bet that there's going to be people who will change John Kirby's photos into the screenshots of Kirby, a video game character. Likisa (talk) 10:52, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. Last edit to the article waas in June this year. Lectonar (talk) 10:54, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Indefinite pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeated disruption from IP editor has resumed after the last protection has expired. The other target of this disruption, Rent regulation, has pending changes configured in response. This article should as well. MrOllie (talk) 11:25, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Already protected. GoodnightmushTalk 11:40, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Both my English and French wikipedia page is being vandalized, I believe by supporters of a woman that I am suing for defamation. This vandalism has occurred before, and I have removed the post before. But anonymous individuals continue to add libelous and intentionally incomplete accusations (that's why I am suing). My litigation is ongoing. I request that edits are blocked until further notice. Mbase1235 (talk) 11:40, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Apparently some YouTuber asked viewers to edit this article? A lot of disruptive editing and reverts recently. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 11:44, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Except for 1 edit, this seems to have died down a week ago. But just drop me a message if it continues. GoodnightmushTalk 11:48, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Constant editing to misgender a deceased trans woman. Also article should probably be renamed to Lana Kaiser since that is their new name. (Daniel is their dead name) Beanman93 (talk) 12:00, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: First of all, this is libel. Secondly, it has nothing to do with research. There are Wiki rules against publishing libelous statements on living persons. And your facts are wrong. The litigation is ongoing. The defendant has contacted the plaintiff twice in the last year to try to settle, and the plaintiff has refused. Obviously, if the case was not ongoing, there would be nothing to settle. Mind your own business and let the courts handle this. Mbase1235 (talk) 12:01, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 12:11, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. — Saqib (talk I contribs) 12:12, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent flurry of drive-by IP nonsense (big foreign-language paste-ins) both here and at Union Pacific 4014. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:51, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
