What IS Zing? And is this an advertisement? -- Zoe
- Z39.50 is the name of a communications protocol that lets library users search other library's catalogs using the same interface. Librarians have encouraged techies to use Z39.50 standards when writing software for library catalogs. Why? So that even though the catalog screens look different when you visit different libraries, they can all look the same when you log on to them from one computer. Zing is apparently the next generation protocol that was developed within the past few years. GUllman
