Paramilitary?
[edit]By Wikipedia's own definition "A paramilitary is a military that is not part of a country's official or legitimate armed forces." RSS is not a social and cultural organization, it's not an armed paramilitary organization. This is totally bizarre and misleading characterization. It is a legal organization within India and they're not armed or trained like soldiers. Yasarhossain07 (talk) 16:56, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. If no objections, I'd like to remove this by end of week.
- In general, this article is full of NPOV violations even if yes the characterizations are sourced by some book I can't readily access. Calling the RSS a "far-right" group is also quite questionable (the BJP typically wins over a third of the vote in India - it's solidly in the mainstream), and I can only find rather left-wing sources making that claim. Usaar33 (talk) 21:22, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, please omit the word paramilitary for describing the RSS Deepti du 27 (talk) 20:16, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- the use of the word "paramilitary" is backed by several well known sources and any removal in the introductory part of the article should only be done through a vote. DataCrusade1999 (talk) 13:28, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Remove This Line. During the colonial period, the RSS collaborated with the British Raj and played no role in the Indian independence movement. 103.177.252.103 (talk) 19:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Why, exactly? Such a statement cites these two sources, both of which seems pretty reliable to me:
- Lal, Vinay (2003). The History of History: Politics and Scholarship in Modern India. Oxford University Press. p. 2. ISBN 978-0-19-566465-2.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the paramilitary organization which advocates a militant Hinduism and a Hindu polity in modern India, not only played no role in the anti-colonial struggle but actively collaborated with the British.
- Bhatt, Chetan (2020). Hindu Nationalism: Origins, Ideologies and Modern Myths. Routledge. p. 99. ISBN 978-1-000-18104-3.
RSS was not considered an adversary by the British. On the contrary, it gave loyal consent to the British to be part of the Civic Guard.

Please remove the word "Paramilitary" because RSS is a non profit organization which works for all the communities in india. They do social services, disaster management and festival management,so word Paramilitary is misleading 43.242.225.12 (talk) 16:55, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: reliable sources describe it as a paramilitary organization (t · c) buidhe 13:51, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
Remove the word paramilitary
[edit]Please remove the description that RSS is a paramilitary organisation from your third line. RSS does not fall under the purview of this definition and it is offensive too to call it a paramilitary organisation. Deepti du 27 (talk) 20:19, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- Not done, since this is how multiple reliable sources call the RSS.[1][2][3][4][5] — kashmīrī TALK 20:25, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that one can not have original research on Wikipedia but basically the only "weapons training" the RSS conducts is how to use sticks, hardly a sign of a paramilitary force.Anyhow, it is for the RSS to correct the perception.Thanks.Jonathansammy (talk) 15:58, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
