Color production

[edit]

I was wondering when the weekday strips started to be produced in color. I checked the archived version of the website from 2002. It appears that the last strip in black and white was July 20, 1998 and the first one in color was the next day. Is this the case? This could be added to the article. Jim Davis

[edit]

Jim Davis' home town is Marion, IN, not Muncie, IN. I can neither confirm nor deny that's where the Garfield strip takes place.

Like everyone else who could, Jim Davis got the hell out of Marion as soon as he could and hasn't been back since.

I’m sorry Jon subreddit / creepy Garfield movement

[edit]

Hi folks,

I think that the astronomical popularity of r/imsorryjon and the proliferation of these memes, drawings, and stories into the rest of the internet warrants a mention on this page. It truly is a movement / phenomenon. 2600:1014:B01A:DA72:989A:7704:B7D8:C6FD (talk) 21:15, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"disdain of Mondays, and diets"

[edit]

In the second paragraph of the article, the word "diets" links to the nutritional definition of a diet, when it should link to "Dieting," the page for regulating eating to decrease weight. 24.29.210.35 (talk) 14:00, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Though its setting is rarely mentioned in print, Garfield takes place in Jim Davis's hometown of Muncie, Indiana, according to the television special Happy Birthday, Garfield. Common themes in the strip include Garfield's laziness, obsessive eating, love of coffee and lasagna, disdain of Mondays, and dieting. Garfield is also shown to manipulate people to get whatever he wants. The strip's focus is mostly on the interactions among Garfield, Jon, and Odie, but other recurring characters appear as well. - paragrpah 2

Jj12341234 (talk) 22:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC) extra info I guess Garfield is a comic strip created by Jim Davis that first appeared in 1978. The strip revolves around the life of Garfield, a lazy, overweight, and cynical cat who loves to eat lasagna, sleep, and watch TV. Garfield lives with his owner Jon Arbuckle, a nerdy and awkward bachelor who works as a cartoonist, and Odie, a dim-witted but friendly dog.[reply]

The comic strip quickly gained popularity and was syndicated in hundreds of newspapers worldwide. Garfield's humorous and relatable personality and his love for food struck a chord with readers of all ages. The strip spawned a media empire that included books, TV shows, movies, and merchandise.

In 1982, Garfield made his television debut in a prime-time special, "Here Comes Garfield," which was followed by a series of Saturday morning cartoons, "Garfield and Friends," that ran from 1988 to 1994. The show featured Garfield's adventures with his animal friends, as well as segments showcasing other characters from Jim Davis's comic strips.

Garfield also appeared in several movies, including "Garfield: The Movie" in 2004, which starred Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield, and "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties" in 2006. Both movies were box-office successes, despite mixed reviews from critics.

In addition to his media appearances, Garfield has become a cultural icon and a symbol of the American love for pets. He has been featured on postage stamps, in theme parks, and numerous advertising campaigns. Today, Garfield remains one of the most popular comic strips ever, with a loyal fan base that continues to grow.

Jim Davis

[edit]

From what I understand Davis has not been doing the cartooning in years. Roscoe the Horse (talk) 09:47, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not that clear what he does exactly. Brett Koth and Gary Barker have been handling most of the artwork since the 1990s, while Davis was handling the writing. But the article has not been updated in some time, and he was last mentioned as merely supervising the strip's production. Dimadick (talk) 01:25, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Debut" repeats in this sentence:

[edit]

"United Feature Syndicate debuted the strip nationwide debut in 41 newspapers, starting on June 19, 1978." 67.225.55.78 (talk) 21:20, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any ideas on how to change it? Because as it stands it's not really a major issue since two different versions of the same word are used. SuperWikiBrother (talk) 22:11, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Remove "debut". 67.225.55.78 (talk) 02:42, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I think the Garfield logo would be better used as the main image for this page, rather than a group shot of the series' main characters. The character image could always be moved to the List of Garfield characters page. As for the logo, I've found a couple here: https://logos.fandom.com/wiki/Garfield_(comic_strip)#1995%E2%80%93present and here: https://logos.fandom.com/wiki/Garfield_(comic_strip)#2020%E2%80%93present NintenBOUND (talk) 14:00, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why would a picture of text be preferable over a picture of the actual title character and some of the supporting cast? Sergecross73 msg me 20:37, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I just figured a picture of the cast would go nice with the List of Garfield characters page, and I didn't want it to be redundant if there were two pictures of the same main cast on different pages. Plus (at least in the case of Peanuts), people might associate the logo with the property as much as the main characters. I understand why this might not be the case with Garfield, as not a lot of people might know what its logo looks like, but I digress. NintenBOUND (talk) 14:42, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
