Privacy Policy

[edit]

I've put Privacy Policy up for speedy deletion because Wikipedia's privacy policy must be written by someone official. Furthermore, you should've created it in the Wikipedia namespace. Please don't recreate it. Thanks! OvenFresh 23:04, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oven Fresh, I put this up because one did not exist and like all things on Wikipedia I thought it would excite a discussion for a real Privacy Policy...sorry I am new to Wikipedia...I did not know anything about Namespaces, just trying to help from this discussion: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#privacy_policy. BTW, how should I go about helping the creation of a Privacy Policy? - Gabriel Kent 23:11, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I suggest you contact Jimbo Wales. By the way, your work wasn't deleted; if for some reason you wish to recover it just go to the history of Privacy Policy, just please don't reinstate it. If you want to keep it, you could make a subpage on your userspace, like this: User:Gabriel Kent/Privacy Policy. 23:20, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Ok I fixed the namespace and sent a message to Jimbo for review, thanks for your help! - Gabriel Kent 23:47, 28 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Just to barge in, there was already a page on the subject at Wikipedia: Privacy policy, which is the correct location (articles that don't begin with "Wikipedia:" should not discuss or even mention Wikipedia, as a rule). It might be reasonable to have a link to this at Privacy policy, once we actually have a privacy policy that is. They seem to be in deadlock about it over on metawiki. Despite your understandable error, Gabriel, we do appreciate your interest in becoming involved in the community and stirring the coals of the neglected privacy policy issue. Deco, thanks for the insight --- in my humble opinion, the term Privacy Policy deserves dual caps...thus I believe I correctly indexed the PP draft @ Wikipedia:Privacy_Policy. Therefore, I have redirected Wikipedia:Privacy_Policy to Wikipedia:Privacy_policy. Thanks again! - Gabriel Kent 20:06, 30 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Christmas

[edit]

That's perfectly OK, Gabriel, I quite understand how the mistake happened, don't give it another thought. On another note, seeing the message above this on your page makes me wonder if Oven Fresh is having a joke with you, or is perhaps himself/herself also new, because the idea that "Wikipedia's privacy policy must be written by someone official" sounds extremely un-Wikipedia-like to me. Nothing is written by anybody official here! There is nobody official, or we're all equally official. Jimbo can by no means deal with everything--that's not the way it works, it's not a top-down place. It seems to me you're the one that had the right idea, drafting a proposal because you saw a lack. You need to put up your document for discussion. I'm not much good with the ways of doing that, and with namespaces and such, but I think five minutes' talk with the people who hang out on the Wikipedia irc would probably make it all clear to you. Or, if not quite that, it would definitely tell you who was best to ask. (If you're not an irc:er, off the top of my head, I'd suggest User:Angela). Good luck with that and best wishes, hope you'll like it here!--Bishonen | Talk 00:14, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Adding yourself to Wikipedia articles

[edit]

Just letting you know you shouldn't link to your userpage from articles in the main namespace. For example, you should only add people who have Wikipedia articles about them to the birth lists on year/day pages. It's a form of vanity. – flamurai (t) 13:59, Feb 11, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder -- I do have a tendency to jump the gun >||;] - Gabriel Kent 10:18, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and therefore not the place to put source texts like this. We already have a external link to the material in the The Aeneid-article. If you want to contribute such things, maybe you want to take a look at http://en.wikisource.org

Happy editing! Mgm|(talk) 11:36, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Also note that use of subpages in the article namespace (see the / in the name), is generally discouraged. Mgm|(talk) 11:37, Feb 14, 2005 (UTC)
