Her lightsaber

[edit]

The picture on the page shows her holding a blue lightsaber which could have been Luke's but as for her own saber it is supposed to be purple. Wouldn't it be better if the she had her own lightsaber for the image on the page? User:Tyler Gilmore | (talk)

Do any of the books mention her switch from anakin's blue lightsaber to a new, purple saber? It seems like her saber color just switched in-between books - Msahimi 21:59, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

no, the only lightsaber she used besides her magenta one as emperor's hand was Anakin's (Luke's)blue oneRed Devil Captain 18:18, 5 November 2007 (UTC) hi —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.230.124.144 (talk) 19:34, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In the 3-book series by Timothy Zahn, she take Luke's lightsaber which was green, and uses it for a time. Then, when she kills Luuke, Lukes clone (who is using Anakin's lightsaber) , she takes Luukes lightsaber, which is Anakin's lightsaber. Hope this clears things up a bit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheHelper101 (talkcontribs) 15:26, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The First Appearance of Mara Jade:

[edit]

Oky, the page is slightly off. Mara Jade's first appearance was in 'Tales From Jabba's Palace' in a short-story by Timothy Zhan called 'Sleight of Hand: The Tale of Mara Jade". Within this short-story, Mara Jade infiltrates Jabba's palace to kill Luke Skywalker. She was sent by the Emporer, for he though Luke was a threat to his control over Vader. ('Tales From Jabba's Palace' - 'Sleight of Hand: The Tale of Mara Jade") I may be mistaken, for Zhan could have been trying to write a small back story. It would be something to look into. - MM

Heir to the Empire would still be first appearance, as it was published four and a half years before Tales from Jabba's Palace. FeralDruid (talk) 08:48, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The emperor's what?

[edit]

"She is a beautiful woman who was once the Emperor's Hand." To those of us not immersed in the Star Wars milieu, that sentence makes little (decent) sense. Hand maiden? Right hand woman? Or is she really just a walking talking hand in a dress (I suspect not). That sentence requires either explanation or an explanatory link, methinks. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 01:31, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Performed a minor edit on it, more clear now? I'm not a Warsie, but this seems right based on what I recall from reading Zahn's books some years back. Jor 15:27, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Ah, that makes perfect sense (although I'm now denied the surreal image of the ambulant hand). Thanks! -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 16:44, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)
I've written an Emperor's Hand article that should further clear things up. --Maru (talk) Contribs 16:26, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Where did that picture come from?

[edit]

It can't be from the movies (in which she only appears if you accept the books' retconning), and it doesn't look like book artwork. Just curious.... DopefishJustin (・∀・) 04:40, 30 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Books

[edit]

Can I ask for a little favor? I would like to see a list of books, where Mara Jade plays a significant role... Is that possible?.. --Koveras 10:47, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I started adding some (added the ones I know of). – Mipadi 13:11, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. By the way, I've found a list of her appearances on a Russian fansite (yes, she is THAT popular ^^), but I'm not sure whether it is all correct (see the Appearances section). --Koveras 20:58, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. I'm thinking she is in more New Jedi Order novels, but I'm not sure which ones. I'll have to look into that. – Mipadi 21:02, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I also think that she appeared in more than just two NJO books... The thing is, it'll take a while for me to read even the TT so if you find something out, please, add it to the article so that I know what to read next. ^^ --Koveras 08:48, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Since Timothy Zhan created her, I think any of his books will do. I am not a fan of NJO, but she is an important figure in the series. Not a central figure, but she does have some importance. - MM

If you want to see a complete list of appearances you should look on Wookieepedia.

Crackpot theory

[edit]

Anyone have more info on the Jerry-Springer-esque "Anakin Skywalker is Ben's real father!" theory? I'm not very (read: not at all) familiar with this era of Star Wars lore, and I've never heard this theory before... It sounds absolutely crazy, but I'd love to learn more about it (if for no other reason than to get a good laugh). --68.239.202.185 07:32, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, for this theory to work, one would have to disregard the fact that Anakin had been dead for twenty-odd years when Ben was conceived. Who knows, if George Lucas decides in 20 years to make more Star Wars movies, this entire story could get retconned, at which point Vader didn't really die at the end of Jedi, but rather took over the body of Luke, whereby your theory would prove viable. Aericanwizard 16:47, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, the one in question is Anakin SOLO, and it's just a crackpot theory whose origins are based on a misread line in Balance Point. Blue Mirage 13:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

{{I think that Luke and Mara Jade shouldn't have married b/c that's a way to the dark side like Anakin Skywalker did b/c of Padmé

It is a fine line. I imagine it would be rather difficult not to feel any attachment toward a spouse and still have a meaningful relationship. Of course, marriage, along with the rest of Luke's liberalization of the Jedi Code, could be seen as part of the reason that so much junk happens to the New Republic even though Anakin was supposed to have balanced the Force. CrossEyed7 19:49, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Kam and Tionne Solusar have been married for nearly 20 years in the Extended Universe, and neither of them has ever approached the so-called dark side, rather, they are the ones who take care of the Jedi children. The Old Jedi Order had all sorts of bunk restrictions. Now, what is dangerous is having a relationship that one fears to have discovered. Jacen Solo's illegitimate child by Tenel Ka is a secret emotional relationship that Jacen has a lot invested in. His fear of its discovery could lead him to rash actions.
As far as the "dark side" itself goes, Vergere's teachings, now the established doctrine of the New Jedi Order, state that there is no light or dark side, there is only the Force, and those arbitrary distinctions merely reflect the intent of the user. Without this more enlightened approach to the Force and use of tactics and techniques usually considered "on the dark side," the Yuzzhan Vong would still be ruling Coruscant. Heck, in the Dark Nest trilogy, Luke actually consents to torturing a prisoner. The Jedi have all learned that the ends justify the means. There is no dark or light side. Only the Force.204.181.205.165 21:13, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I respect you opinion about Luke and Mara being married. I am a Mara fan, and I too believe they should not have been married. When it comes to the Darkside and Star Wars, I think this is where the character concepts evolve. When Luke finally becomes a Jedi Master, this is symbolic to his character growth. I too believe that Mara's place with Luke is weird, for I am a fan of her rouge past. If you look at Star Wars EU as a whole, I think she is the best fit for this to happen. I don't believe her Darkside days are over. - MM —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.140.15.103 (talkcontribs) 22:20, 5 August 2006
Theres another point here, in the special bond that they share after the HoT duology, that they might be too closely linked. So that even if not married in name, in truth they would be. Though... Im not sure, in light of what we are learning in the Legacy books, that we can say that vergere is the last word on Jedi policy in the new Order. -Warsie —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.205.187.145 (talkcontribs) 04:39, 11 January 2007
I fail to see how such an emotion as love can lead one to the dark side. Love by definition is a strong affection, a warm attachment, and a beloved person. None of these are traits of the dark side. The only emotions I could see from people who fell to the dark side such as Exar Kun, Malak, Bane, Dooku, Vader, and the Emperor was anger, hatred and the need to have more power. One can simply look as to how many Jedi from the past and present who fell in love with someone who did not fall to the dark side because of it. There was Nomi and Andur Sunrider, Revan and Bastila, Kit and Aayla were said to have had feelings for each other, Tholme and T’ra, Quinlan and Khaleen, and of course... Luke and Mara. Lets remember that love is what Vader still had for his son Luke that he did not wise to see him be killed by the Emperor.
Jolee Bindo said it best.
"Love doesn't lead to the dark side. Passion can lead to rage and fear, and can be controlled, but passion is not the same thing as love. Controlling your passions while being in love, that's what they should teach you to beware, but love itself will save, not condemn you." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.224.105.251 (talkcontribs) 18:42, 21 July 2007}}

Remove undue speculation

[edit]

Why bother speculating about Mara's possible parentage when 1) there really isn't any solid material to base that speculation, and 2) it is a very big universe and her parents don't even have to be anyone known in the movies or EU at this point. Phil 01:24, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree completely. If there's hints from the EU that any of those are possible, then someone should cite them; otherwise, they don't belong here at all. But I doubt any citation exists, as the section even states that it's purely fan speculation without EU confirmation. I am going to be bold and remove it, for the reasons given above.--DarthBinky 17:56, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mara Jade's height

[edit]

why is mara jade only 6 ft 3 in? She looks taller to me and also in star wars jedi knight mysteries of the sith. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lieutenant Dol Grenn (talkcontribs) 09:31, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Death

{{I added spoiler warnings to the few sentances discussing her death. I was wondering are we going to expand on it once Sacrifice is Officially released or should it be done now?

Spoiler warning added again following Wikipedia format. The novel in which Mara dies has only reccently been published and her death should not simply be included without a warning until a fair amount of time has passed. Thanks --Drsketch 06:10, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In-universe

[edit]

Anyone seriously interested in improving the article should consider adding some real world related info, e.g. regarding the concept, creation, and/or function of the character within the Star Wars narrative etc. Please consult our writing about fiction guideline, which also includes a list of exemplary articles.

There are currently three featured articles on Star Wars characters: Palpatine, Padmé Amidala, and Jabba the Hutt. What sets them aside from most of the other SW character articles is the effort to write from the real world perspective. Pay particular attention to paragraphs like Jabba the Hutt#Concept and creation, Palpatine#Concept and creation, and Padmé Amidala#Characterization.

Also take a look at Darth Vader, which despite its lack of reliable, published third-party secondary sources features interesting sections on e.g. #Character creation and concepts and Darth Vader as a #Cultural figure.

Even though reliable sources may be tough to come up with, any effort to introduce coherently written real world aspects will be greatly appreciated, because it contributes to the depth of the article and accurate coverage of the topic, and thereby makes for an improved reading experience and increases the encyclopedic value of the article.

Mara means bitter in Hebrew...

[edit]

What does that have to do with anything? I'm sure if one looked hard enough, they'd find that "mara" probably means a lot of things in a lot of different languages. As such, it's irrelevant to this article. Peter1968 23:14, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the Wooki page [1]:

Zahn picked the name "Mara" very deliberately, with the Hebrew word "Mara" meaning bitterness. Also, one of Zahn's dictionaries had "discarded woman" as a meaning for Jade. Thus, the name Mara Jade was born.

They list SW Insider 47 as a source. Blue Mirage 16:02, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

*shrug* If you think it's pertinent to the article, go ahead and undo my edit. I personally think it's irrelevant trivia. Peter1968 06:29, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]
This is not a forum

i was rather annoyed at her death, she was a very cool character

I'm surprised that this hasn't turned into a Jacen-bashing fest. Blue Mirage (talk) 12:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't believe they killed Mara! She is like so AWESOME! I think it was just so wrong to kill Mara, I wouldn't have minded much I admit, if they had killed Luke instead. And what happened to the article on her, it looks like it's been butchered! (LeiaSolo900) 26 November 2007 —Preceding comment was added at 18:59, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- you've gotta be kidding me, they KILLED MARA? WTF! What is it with these writers! Such a cool character - MotS was one of the best games ever! No picture of the character on the page at all btw, not even of her appearance in a game? --Simonski (talk) 13:15, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated re-insertion of unsuitable image

[edit]

Queen Azshara continues to reinsert an image of a real person who, clearly, cannot be Mara Jade. It is hard, therefore, to see how this image can be relevant or useful particularly as there is already a much better illustration. Either way, however, Queen Azshara now needs to cease their tendentious editing and discuss this matter here so that a consensus can be reached.--KorruskiTalk 12:57, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the stirring up could have been avoided if QA could have taken the time to discuss their reasoning for the addition. Who knows - maybe there was some unfathomable, yet solid, reasoning for the image's inclusion. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 17:22, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mara Jade was a Dark Jedi, not a Sith

[edit]

While Mara Jade was an Emperor's Hand, she was not given Sith training of any kind. Love to help Wikipedia (talk) 02:41, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Jedi refers to any follower of the dark side of the Force outside of an organization with a doctrinal mindset such as the Sith, regardless of whether or not they received Jedi training. Love to help Wikipedia (talk) 02:49, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
