Move proposal

[edit]

Proposal: move this page to Isang Yun. This is the version of the name by which this composer is known in English-speaking areas. Badagnani 08:14, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gwangju piece(s?)

[edit]

Does anyone know if Gwangju Forever (1980) is actually a piece, and not just a translation of the Exemplum? I've known about the Exemplum in Memoriam Kwangju (1981) for years, and Grove lists it. I find scant reference for Gwangju Forever online, and Grove does not mention it. Is it possible Gwangju Forever is the same piece? Rizzleboffin 13:44, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After a little more searching, I've come to the conclusion that there is only one Gwangju piece. My reasons are:
  • Google searches show that the piece "Gwangju Forever" was written in 1981 (the year the Exemplum was written), not 1980 (the year of the massacre).
  • The Boosey & Hawkes list of Yun's works: http://www.yun-gesellschaft.de/d/werke.htm

names only one Gwangju piece: Exemplum in memoriam Kwangju für großes Orchester (1981)

It seems to me that the title "Gwangju Forever" is a translation into English, of the Korean version of the Latin title. Since the piece is known by the Latin title in languages other than Korean, I suggest we use that title, and am re-editing to reflect that. Rizzleboffin 17:50, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
